Darren's Diary
Doesn’t time just fly – one moment you are getting used to a place and the next you are getting ready to go home! It’s now only just over 6 months before we head for the UK for our Home Assignment at the end of this year. We’re looking forward to 7 months back in the UK, but before then I seem to have rather a lot to get sorted in the office. In many ways it’s been a rather tiring year, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, but it has also been full of rich experience. Whilst many of you were preparing to see in the New Year, I was sitting in a clinic trying to get an out of hours jab for Catriona. Having bought the girls rabbits prior to Christmas (from a street side stand), 2 had suddenly died and then Catriona had got bitten – a briefing on rabies had been put on my desk earlier in the day and, whilst the chances were slim, I suddenly realised my oversight. In the end we all got jabs and the rabbits were passed on.
Other challenges…an evolving regulatory environment in Cambodia. The Tax Department tell you one thing, the Tax Law tells you something else and the Tax Accountant something different again. Oh for black and white again, grey is far too stressful. At least imported Yorkshire pork pies have made it to a local bar/café – I read about it in an advert, but haven’t had chance to try them out yet. Doubtless there’ll be a day when I’ll yearn for one as a pick-me-up in the face of another seemingly unresolvable problem. Praise God for giving me (some) patience, wisdom and help – I’m glad that OMF Cambodia depends on him, not me!
And to top it all I’m getting more sleep just now than some of my colleagues, since England didn’t make the Euro Finals. Every cloud has a silver lining… Cheerio
